Surfaces become extremely hot in the sunlight because of the absorption of infrared sunlight into the surface material. Absorbed infrared light is transformed into heat, and conventional dark colors absorb light at the highest rates. The dark green and brown colors used in artificial turf products absorb large amounts of light, which causes a high heat buildup and results in high surface temperatures. However, heat-reflective color pigments like those used in TigerCool technology reflect the light rather than absorb it, which causes a lower heat buildup and lower surface temperatures as a result.
